The Program in Japanese Studies coordinates a variety of campus offerings dealing with the language, history, culture, and political economy of Japan. The program is especially strong in the area of modern and contemporary Japan. In addition to courses availabe in the Departments of Anthropology, Economics, History, Linguistics, Literature, Music, Political Science, Sociology, Theatre and Dance and Visual Arts, qualified undergraduates may also enroll in Japan-related courses in the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies with consent of instructors.

  • NEW Summer 2012 Intensive Language Program at Osaka University!

    A new EAP 8 1/2 week intensive beginning Japanese language course will be offered at the Minoh campus of Osaka University. Summer 2012 is the first installment of this program, and is only targeted for students with no prior Japanese language study. Depending on the success of the program this coming summer, Osaka University is also considering to offer intermediate and advanced levels of Japanese in future summers.   • Asayake Through the Looking Glass --  May 6, 2012 (UCSD Price Center West Ballroom B, 2nd floor)

    Don't miss Asayake Taiko's 5th annual spring concert where we take you on an adventure through Taikoland as well as reflect on the history of Asayake in a Tenth Anniversary slideshow. Along with our main Japanese drumming, there will be amazing guest performers such as Chinese Dance Association, DJ Esteban, [N]Motion and Soul Run.
