    Kumi Obayashi-Ward joined the Japanese Studies Program in April, 2014. She obtained a B.A. in Comparative Cultural Studies (Japan and U.S.) and a teaching credential from Osaka Shoin Women's University to fulfill her deam to become an EFL instructor. She also completed the Professional TEFL Certificate Program at UC San Diego Extension. Prior to becoming a program coordinator and academic advisor for the Japanese Studies Program at UC San Diego, she had truely enjoyed teaching English, advising students, and doing administrative work at English language schools, including International Programs at UC San Diego Extension, for over ten years. She is passionate about assisting students to maximize their learning opportunities and guiding them to achieve their academic and personal goals. She enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her family and friends.
